Mom Likes Wine More than Flowers

There are all kinds of moms out there in the world: the woman who birthed you, the women that you look up to, the village of women who have raised you in some way. No matter the type of mom she is, she definitely likes wine more than flowers. She even called us to solicit help in making sure you know how much more she liked wine than flowers.

To celebrate the special mom in your life, bring her into the bistro for a flight and a bite and maybe a bottle or two to go home. We’ll have some special treats for all the moms out there in the world.

Reservations for Mother’s Day will be available on Open Table beginning May 1. We can’t wait to host you and your mom!

Producer Visit: Michael Lundeen

Producer Visit: Michael Lundeen

We kick off May by welcoming owner and winemaker, Michael Lundeen of Lundeen Wines. A native Oregonian, Michael has been perfecting his craft for almost two decades, having also spent time developing his career at Domaine Serene, Willakenzie, and Belle Pente. (In case you’re not as nuts about Willamette Pinot as we are, that’s a pretty killer resume.)

From the time Michael and his father planted the first Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris vines in 2001, Poverty Bend Vineyard has been both the heartbeat of his wines and the catalyst for a future to come. Michael’s original vision of naturally handcrafting expressive and elegant wines in the Willamette Valley has since grown into a 20+ year career.

Lundeen Wines have been a favorite of a few Whisperers for sometime. While the Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays and Pinot Gris are all outstanding, it’s the sparkling wines that are truly transcendent. We can’t wait to introduce you to Michael and pour through these wines for you.

This program is a part of our regularly scheduled Winesday tasting. Stop by anytime between 5 pm and 7:30 pm to meet Michael, taste some wine, and purchase a few bottles. No reservations required. $20 at the door.

Wine Class: Fortified Series - Vermouth & Cocktails

We bet you didn't know how cool and complex the world of dessert and fortified wines could be! Come to the Whisperer and learn about what all goes into a glass of your favorite after dinner sipper. This series will help you show off your knowledge of sherry at a fancy restaurant, port over a friendly fire pit, or at the bar while you discuss some of the best known aromatized wines that you find on cocktail lists around town!

Remember the ancient bottle of Martini & Rossi that was tucked way back in the back of your parents' bar? It probably only made a rare appearance when your dad, in true dad fashion, pulled it out and gently rubbed the bottle against his martini glass to indicate that's about as close as vermouth would ever get to his perfectly chilled gin martini. No disrespect to Pops, but vermouth absolutely has a seat at the table and should never be stored in a bar! Join Amber in the Whisper Room to sample through the Vermouths that are worth talking about, learn about how this fantastic wine is made, and also why bartenders have always kept it in the bar fridge. In addition to sampling several vermouths, we'll also talk cocktail basics, and you'll walk away with some of Amber's tricks of the trade. A must attend class for any budding bartender or cocktail aficionado.

Three sessions available: Tuesday, February 27 at 7 pm; Saturday, March 2 at 3 pm; Friday, April 5 at 12 pm.

Wine Dinner: Bodegas Tierra at 6:30 pm

We’re delighted to welcome Carlos Fernandez Gomez to The Wine Whisperer on Monday, March 18 to showcase his wines in a dinner.

The Fernandez Gomez family has a history in viticulture that stretches back for more than a century, but it was the vision of the latest generation that first brought their production to the commercial market through the emergence of Bodegas Tierra. With nearly 80 acres of prime vineyard holdings in Rioja Alavesa, some containing original hundred-year-old plantings, it’s not surprising Tierra quickly earned an impressive reputation as an estate grower and producer. Efforts taken by Tierra focus on maintaining grape integrity from vineyard to bottle so true character is maintained; picking is always done by hand, with great care and winemaking never intrusive. Within the stylistic spectrum of Rioja, expect robust, balanced wines that integrate generous barrel maturity with minimal oxidative characteristics. In addition to his many honors, Carlos was awarded Grower of the Year in Rioja in 2021 by Tim Atkin.

More information will be released soon! But plan for some Whisperer magic alongside these incredible Riojas. Limited seats available. $125 per person. Purchase tickets online or in store.

Wine Class: Fortified Series - Aromatized Wine

We bet you didn't know how cool and complex the world of dessert and fortified wines could be! Come to the Whisperer and learn about what all goes into a glass of your favorite after dinner sipper. This series will help you show off your knowledge of sherry at a fancy restaurant, port over a friendly fire pit, or at the bar while you discuss some of the best known aromatized wines that you find on cocktail lists around town!

There's a weird world where wine and spirits overlap, and it revolves around Aromatized wines. We're talking aperitifs and digestifs and vermouth (but vermouth is big on it's own, so we're separating that class out). Have you ever wondered what an aperitif is? Or what the big deal is? Or how this higher ABV wines pack the punch that we're talking about? Ever tried something like Amaro after dinner and thought "whyyyyy?" Amber is going to do her best to demystify the world of Aromatized wines while simultaneously passing her passion for these odd concoctions on to you. We'll sample through a range of wines steeped with herbs from all over the world and discuss how, and why, you'd use them.

Two sessions available: Friday, February 23 at 12 pm; Tuesday, March 19 at 7 pm.

$50 per person. Purchase online or in store.

Wine Dinner: Rasa Vineyards

We will be welcoming Pinto Naravane to the Wine Whisperer for a paired wine dinner featuring the wines of Rasa Vineyards.  Pinto and Billo Naravane have been wine enthusiasts since “forever." They are avid wine collectors and oenophiles. After working almost two decades in the Computer Industry, they finally ditched it all. Pinto and Billo took the plunge to go completely native in the wild, cut throat world of wine making. The Naravane brothers formed Rasa Vineyards in 2007 with the goal of producing ultra-premium, terroir specific wines.

We've been planning for this dinner for several months, even managing to secure wines that are generally only available to those who visit the winery. We’ll release more details as we get closer to the event, but trust us when we say, you don't want to miss this.

Limited seats available. $175 per person.
